Skull Caps
A skull cap is the quiet layer: low profile, close fitting, and useful anywhere a durag is too much and bare hair is too little. Under a hat, under a helmet, at the gym or at work, it keeps hair in place and the pattern protected without drawing attention.
Skull cap vs wave cap vs compression cap
A wave cap is built for wave training — snug, even compression across the pattern. A compression cap pushes that further for hold during activity. A plain skull cap is the everyday layer: warmth, neatness and light protection without the training job. Pick by the job, not by the name.
Fit and layering
A skull cap should hug the head without squeezing. If it leaves deep lines or slides up, it is the wrong size or the wrong fabric for the job. Under hats and helmets it works as a barrier layer — it stops the hat from dragging the pattern out of place.
Care
Wash skull caps the way you wash any close-fitting knit: gentle cycle, air-dry, and rotate a few so one is not carrying every workout. Stretched-out elastic is the usual end of a skull cap's life, and rotation is what delays it.
